Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster Oven Review: Our Real World Experience

When I first removed the Cuisinart TOA-60 from the box, I was struck by the stylish appearance. It totally lived up to the online photos. But, when I went to use it for the first time, I started to have some concerns. The interior of the oven was significantly smaller than the Breville toaster oven we had been using for the past 5+ years.
The first item I wanted to cook in the new oven was a steak. I have a very nice toaster oven broil pan set that’s perfect for steaks. Unfortunately, it did not quite fit in this oven. You could squeeze in, but then it was very tight against the sides of the oven and raised safety concerns.

My plan was to use the air fry function to cook my steak. The oven comes with a recipe book with several air fry recipes and air fry instructions. Unfortunately, there were no air fry instructions for steak. So, I ended up using my refrigerator air fryer reference magnet as a guide. (Note: After some trial and error, I figured out that the air fry function on this machine cooks several minutes faster than the recommended times on the chart.)
After several months of use, here’s my ultimate verdict. This machine will be a perfect toaster oven for many families – but just not our family. The air fry function works very well, once you learn how to make the time adjustments. Frozen fries come out perfectly brown and crispy.

And the steaks come out with a good char while remaining juicy on the inside. The trick is you really have to monitor it the first time you cook something because if you use standard recommended times you’ll end up with burnt rocks. But once you account for that, it turns into a plus because you can cook foods very quickly.
In addition to the size of the interior cooking space, the dials turned out to be more stylish than functional for a heavy user. It’s impossible to get precise timing measures using the dial timer. The increments are 5 minutes with no interim markings. You essentially have to eyeball it or use a digital timer you otherwise have.

Another challenge is that this particular oven can be difficult to clean. Particularly the drip pan and the air fryer basket.
The easiest way to handle the drip pan is to make sure you always line it when you’re using it. Either with aluminum foil or parchment paper. The pan is not non-stick, so if you don’t cover it, the drippings essentially bake on. And, you’ll need to soak and scrub to get it clean.
As for the air fryer basket, you can’t really use foil to assist with clean-up because that would prevent the air from circulating properly to cook your food. Cleaning this basked requires some soaking and lots of scrubbing.

Tips For The Cuisinart Air Fryer Toaster TOA-60
Here are some tips for using the Cuisinart TOA-60 convection toaster oven air fryer:
1. Read the instruction manual carefully before use. This will help you understand how the appliance works and how to use it properly.
2. When cooking with the air fryer function, preheat the oven for 3 minutes before adding your food. This will help ensure that your food cooks evenly.
3. If you want to achieve crispier results, cook your food in batches rather than overcrowding the baking tray.
4. Shake or turn over your food midway through cooking to ensure even frying.
5. Use the convection setting if you want food to cook more quickly and evenly.
6. Experiment with different cooking times and temperatures to find what works best for your needs.
